PRICING

Price calculations were made using the official Walmart website in January 2021. Walmart was the store of choice due to the variety of products it carries and accessibility throughout the United States. For the most part, Great Value brand items were chosen for their affordability. If an ingredient did not come in such brand, the next cheapest brand was opted for. This was done to demonstrate how inexpensive each recipe could be. If you were to choose organic produce, name brand items, or shop at a high scale store then the cost per recipe would increase substantially.

Only the ticket price was used to determine a meal’s cost. Tax was not included in the price calculation due it it’s variability. It is important to recognize that the price of food items changes rather rapidly and is influenced by location of purchase. Since the listed costs of each recipe may not be completely accurate at the time you are viewing it, please take into consideration that it may cost you slightly more or less to prepare these dishes.

Note: Fresh parsley was the only ingredient that Walmart does not currently sell. For the pricing of this item, I used a nearby Giant grocery store in Vienna, Virginia.

Disclaimer

Spices were not included in the price calculations since small quantities are required. If you do not already have any of the spices that are needed, then the cost of cooking all of these recipes will increase. If you are interested in Mediterreanean cuisine and plan on frequently cooking such dishes, it is advisable to invest in staple spices such as kosher salt, fresh black pepper, cumin, paprika, dried crushed mint, and Aleppo pepper or a substitute (cayenne pepper or spicy hungarian paprika). A one time purchase of these spices will last you quite a long time.
